Ride Muni to School Week is back!

We will be showing our appreciation for student Muni riders throughout the week

As part of Ride Muni to School Week (February 2 – 6, 2026), we will be setting up outreach tables near Muni bus stops near schools to engage students, promote Muni usage, and celebrate the students who ride the bus to school.

These events aim to foster excitement about sustainable transportation while sharing important safety and transit information.

In celebration of Ride Muni to School Week, K-12 and Access students are all invited to participate in this year’s Muni Art Contest!

Here’s how:

1. Meme-ify Muni!

Take your favorite meme and incorporate Muni in a creative way.

Remember to keep it family-friendly! Public transit hubs and Muni vehicles can be used as inspiration for settings and more.

2. Ride on the Wild Side!

Draw your favorite animal riding Muni, waiting at a Muni station, or reimagined as a Muni vehicle.

You may select any animal – living, extinct or mythical! We encourage inclusion of specific Muni lines like the L Taraval or 14 Mission!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Artwork should be 8.5” x 11”
  • All media welcome: drawing, painting, mixed media, digital, etc.
  • Email a copy to SRTSContest@sfmta.com with your name, school, and grade level
  • Deadline: February 27, 2026

Winners will be selected by grade level (K-5, 6-8, 9-12+Access) and will be contacted by school representatives.

Three winning artists will each get a $50 gift certificate to BLICK Art Materials!

Artwork will be judged based on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Clarity of artwork’s message relating to the prompts
  • Representation of diversity and inclusivity
  • Appropriateness and fun for all

HAVE FUN AND GET CREATIVE!

Ride Transit

transit

The bus is just the beginning

With a variety of ride options from buses to streetcars to light rail to cable cars, Muni’s extensive transit system can get most kids within a short walk of their school.

Free Muni for All Youth

Muni is FREE everyone 18 and under! To ride all you need to do is hop aboard. No fare, Clipper Card, or other verification is needed. Muni buses, light rail, and streetcars are all free. Fare payment is still required to ride the cable cars.

Youth Cable Car Passes

Youth 18 and under can apply for a cable car pass to become eligible for free rides on the cable cars. Passes are available to all youth regardless of household income. The application can be completed here.

Adult Discounts

Lifelife Muni Pass and Clipper START
The Lifeline Pass is an adult Muni-only pass that provides unlimited rides on all Muni services. Passes are offered at half the rate of the standard adult monthly pass. Eligibility is based on household income. Additional information on the Muni Lifeline Pass can be found here.

Clipper START provides single ride fare discounts for those who qualify for the monthly Lifeline Pass but may not ride Muni frequently enough to make use of a monthly pass. More information on the Clipper START Program can be found here.
